Project Overview
Suria KLCC is Southeast Asia's most recognisable retail landmark, sitting at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. In November 2024, TPK Lighting delivered a fully programmable DMX512 facade illumination system that serves both everyday brand identity and large-scale event programming — meeting the visual standards demanded by one of the world's most photographed commercial addresses.
The project combines two complementary fixture categories — RGBW LED wall washers tracing the lower commercial facade perimeters, and high-output architectural floodlights illuminating the tower base sections and surrounding fountain plaza. Together they create a layered nighttime composition that reads coherently from street level, from KLCC Park, and from Jalan Ampang.

Illuminating a World-Class Landmark — The Engineering Problem
Complex Multi-Surface Geometry
The facade combines curved canopies, vertical columns, and large horizontal surfaces at multiple heights. Achieving uniform illumination without hot spots or dark zones required precise beam angle selection and fixture spacing calculation for each zone.
Asymmetric Beam Engineering
The LWW-WZB-W55-L12's 12°×60° asymmetric distribution concentrates output onto each surface without cross-spill. Fixture spacing was calculated against IES photometric data to verify uniformity ratios across all facade zones before installation.
DMX Synchronisation Across Two Fixture Categories
Wall washers and high-output floodlights are fundamentally different fixture types with different DMX channel structures. Coordinating seamless colour scenes across both required careful universe mapping and address planning.
Unified DMX512 Control Network
A single DMX512 backbone manages both fixture categories with individual-zone addressing. Scene transitions — including national holiday programming and retail event colour changes — execute with zero latency across the full installation.
Tropical Climate Durability
Kuala Lumpur's high humidity, heavy monsoon rainfall, and year-round UV exposure place severe demands on outdoor fixtures. Under-rated equipment fails within the first 12 months in these conditions.
Full IP67 Weatherproofing
All wall washer fixtures carry IP67 certification — fully sealed against sustained water immersion and complete dust ingress. Drivers and optical assemblies rated for continuous operation at ambient temperatures up to 45°C.

Landmark-Grade Nighttime Identity
The Suria KLCC lighting system is designed to function simultaneously as a commercial branding tool and a civic landmark contribution. The RGBW colour gamut supports both a refined warm-white corporate mode for standard operations and full dynamic colour programming for public occasions — Malaysia National Day, international retail campaigns, and major events at the adjacent Petronas towers.
