Mianyang Overpass Architectural Lighting Project | Urban Interchange Illumination
Project Overview
The multi-layered interchange structure of the Mianyang Overpass, characterized by smooth curving roadways and intricate traffic networks, is brilliantly illuminated by a professional urban infrastructure lighting system. Utilizing a sophisticated combination of high-performance LED guardrail lights and architectural floodlights in a consistent 4000K neutral white color, this project draws inspiration from the city's efficient transportation rhythm, highlighting the overpass as a vital, luminous artery of connectivity and safety.
Roadway Safety & Structural Illumination Design
Precision-engineered LED guardrail lights trace the edges of the road barriers with a steady 4000K glow, clearly defining traffic lanes and significantly enhancing driving safety at night. Simultaneously, targeted floodlights accentuate the structural layers and vertical concrete piers, adding profound depth to the overpass's geometric form.
The uniform neutral white light delivers soft, glare-free illumination that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding cityscape, creating a calm, orderly nighttime environment that perfectly balances functional roadway safety with aesthetic harmony.
How the Guardrail Lighting Was Engineered
This installation is where TPK's low-level roadway lighting geometry was first proven: luminaires clamped to the guardrail at a 1.2 m mounting height instead of on a pole, so the light line stays below the eye level of an approaching driver. The optical and mechanical detail behind that approach — the vertical cutoff, the glare shield and louvre, and the clamp fixing that leaves the galvanised tube intact — is set out in Bridge Guardrail Lighting: Glare Control at a 1.2 m Mounting Height.
The 603 m Fujiang Bridge in the same city is the full-scale successor, where the same rail-mounted geometry carries 2,637 custom luminaires; how its arch ribs, hangers, girder and deck each carry their own light is documented in Fujiang Bridge Night Lighting, Deconstructed.
